1.Title Meta Tag:

The title tag places just under your DOCTYPE declaration and below your head tag.

  • The title Tag should always represent the subject for each specific page. It should reflect exactly what can be expressed on that page.
  • Title Tag should never be blank or filled with a default title such as ‘Home’.
  • Your title tags should be different for every page of your website . The title of each page should be unique on every single page of your website.
  • If your title tags contain your keyword(s) the search engines are going to place great importance on them.
  • The title tags should contain at least one main or focus keyword.
  • Don’t repeat words in the title tag more than 3 times. Repeating a word (whether a keyword or not) 5 times or more will surely elevate red flags for spam. Never raise any flags with your title tag.
  • The title tag should never be more than 80 characters long in any case , but most search engines will cut the title off at 60 characters. So I personally recommend using title tag within 45 to 55 characters.
  • The title tags are displayed in the search results by any keywords. So The title tag should be attractive to users and encourage them to click through to your website.

2. Meta Description:

The Meta description tag allows to set your website listing will be shown in the search results of major search engine, many smaller meta search engines and meta aware web directories .The Meta description tag describe your document.The Meta description tag should also be inviting and attractive to persuade the user to click and visit your website with more interest rather than your competitors.

  • The meta description tags should include the keywords or keyword phrases for every page.
  • The meta description tags should not contain any formatting information.
  • Do not stuff your description meta tags full of keywords.
  • The meta description tags should be shorter than the 200 characters, I personally recommend using title tag within 120 to 160 characters. That means, it is at least more than the 120 minimum characters and not exceed to 160 characters(155 characters are better).

N.B: Meta tags end by ” />” or “>” which depend on your doctype. So use the correct meta ending sign.
If meta description tag is not a real sentence and you can get penalized for that duplicate or unusual meta description.

Every page on your website must have a unique meta description.

Over 80% of all online users start with a search query. Visitors browse to a search engine and fill out certain keywords that match what they are looking for.The keywords are used by search engines to index the document from the title and document body. Search Engine shows their result as indexed keywords.The keywords meta tag is never seen by users in the search results. That’s why it’s so important to set up relevant and correct keywords in meta keywords tags.

  • Meta keywords are used to categorize your page.
  • Use a comma-space for Separating each keyword.
  • You can use Meta keywords with 20 different keywords.Keyword stuffing shows great problem by the search engines.Adding too many keywords to the meta keywords mark as red flags for web page Spam.
  • You should use meta keyword with not more than 1000 characters.I like to limit myself to maximum 512 characters and not exceed to 600 characters.

Google actually ignores the meta keyword data.Because Google crawls and cashes the entire page content in Google’s archive.
